Release Announcements: Zeitgeist 0.7 and libQZeitgeist 0.1

I will make this short so I can start kissing some @$$

We released Zeitgeist 0.7 “All I have is this woodchuck” today, which comes with major performance improvements.
Fetching events is AT LEAST twice as fast and in some cases its around 10 times as fast as the 0.6 release.
Also inserting events is twice as …

Activity Journal getting a new View

I am blessed with some amazing team. The magnificent Cando just finished a new view for Activity Journal. It took me by surprise since all I did was suggest this view to be done, then he showed me what I thought is a mockup. Only it wasn’t check it out on his blog. Basically …

Skype Zeitgeist logger under development

Hey guys this is just a teaser of what I am working on, it needs code cleanup and testing…

For now enjoy the Quicklist in Docky and Fredrik Nnaji’s big smile

A Skype indicator is on the way too :P

P.S: Skype4Py is a challenge

Wingpanel

What is nice about Wingpanel is that it saves real-estate without compromising the functionality of the indicators.

I took some time today to fight with libindicators and fix some issues the current wingpanel. It is as a very experimental piece of software. And by no means is it the new panel.

Docky: mastering the art of jump lists with Zeitgeist

As an avid docky user (sometimes I switch to AWN depending on my mood), I got very used to the jumplists. But at some point I was not satisfied with what I hacked before, since it was based on the early 0.3 Zeitgeist API. I decided to revisit it and fixed the following:

So the current proposal looks like this (it is being updated since the whole layout changed)

I …

GNOME Shell + Zeitgeist = ?

Unity has it. KDE is getting it. So I took the liberty of hacking on Shell (thanks to the guys on #gnome-shell)

After 2 days (no JS experiece) I wrote the JS DBus bindings around Zeitgeist and did this…

This is not a MOCKUP … IT IS WORKING CODE…

Let’s see where this will go. Stay tuned.

Zeitgeist coming to KDE

The KDE desktop has taken the lead to bring the semantic desktop to users with their KDE 4.0 release. Although it had a rough start back then, IMHO Nepomuk always stood out as a major and remarkable service/technology.

Before I begin I would like to explain  Nepomuk and Zeitgeist:

Nepomuk (What is an item about?): aims …

A nice Zeitgeist extensions explanation

A Zeitgeist extension allows you to manipulate events before they are pulled/pushed from/into Zeitgeist.

According to Mr. Sinha:

I don’t think writing zeitgeist extension is a rocket science from any angle. All your need is patience and courage to poke the zeitgeist engine developers on IRC.

You can read an explanation on how he came to this …
