So I will keep this short… I assembled a task force to work on GNOME Music based on https://live.gnome.org/Design/Apps/Music. Development is really coming along nicely.
Cesar Garcia Tapia had started a Vala development of it. We used lots of it in the new re-implementation which is in JS, this is due to the fact that.
If you are interested in helping us out drop by #gnome-music on (irc.gimp.org). We could use more help on the JavaScript side and Grilo if possible. For now here are some screenshots:
P.S: I would like to thank Next Tuesday for sponsoring my time on this small codebase
.
Update:
Here are the same screenshots in the “not dark” Adwaita

@seiflotfy What’s the idea behind music that a redesign of rhythmbox wouldn’t suffice for?

Great news! The core apps are really coming together.
Looks realy good. I’m just wondering how the Artists overview will look like. When I will click on the specific artist, all their albums or all their songs will appear? Thanks
Thanks a lot. Seriously. It was about time gnome had a proper music application now that Banshee is in such a poor shape (not gtk3 port yet, recent dbus bug, etc)
Where the source code of the js implementation?

@seiflotfy: looks good. but please, when there’s no cover artwork, generate a beautiful, colorful cover, perhaps w/ typographical niceness.
@seiflotfy @garrett and, paddings! you know how to fix them.
Is this going to replace Rythmbox?
This is very cool. Nice work, Seif, Cesar and co.
To those people asking about Rhythmbox: if this matures I think we’d like it to become a core GNOME application. Rhythmbox will remain and continue to be developed, if you’d prefer to use it. (And yes, we did explore the possibliity of turning Rhythmbox into this, and we did speak to the Rhythmbox maintainers. In the end, creating a new application seemed a lot easier, and will enable the Rhythmbox developers to keep on doing their own thing.)

@seiflotfy Good to hear but I would have like to see some of the excellent Banshee codebase used for this.
I really agree with Vanya (“Great news! The core apps are really coming together.”).
They are all becoming really nice and useful.
The one line description of the project in the wiki make it sounds like a specialised view of the display for the Music folder (fine), but the objectives seems to imply it’s a complete re-implementation of Rhythmbox.
Any reason for not fixing Rhythmbox (or Banshee), and instead reimplementing everything? Do you realise how big are the objectives listed? Also, any reason that on the screenshots it doesn’t look like a typical gnome application? Were you using an unusual dark theme? Please, make sure that Gnome stays neat and consistent
Great news ! Will this app be also able to browse and play cloud-based music, such as Deezer, YouTube or Google Music ?
Please make sure it supports google music
“So I will keep this short…”
“So finally we have rolled out Zeitgeist 1.0 beta…”
Why does everyone prefix sentences with ‘so’ nowadays?
By the way, I love the software. The music notes could be smaller, though: maybe placed in the centre of a box the size of the other album artwork.
I like this very much. Is there a function in this applicataion to rip a CD?
really very nice but there’s almost no contrast between the text and the background in the “not dark” Adwaita for the selected tab. Keep up the good work.

Love it! Finally my wish come true
FYI, one of the best music front-ends I have seen is the “Cubano” theme for banshee, which unfortunately never made it to release… It’s not perfect (as I expect this official gnome application to be
), but you might find some design ideas quite ellegant and interesting:

Great news!
Is Music going to feature Radio & Podcast, or there’s place for ‘more specific’ apps (such as a gnome-radio/podcast)?
The Banshee codebase is garbage.
finally some new gnome core application in the new gnome main programming language, javascript! Hope it brings more contributors to it and more unification in gnome
