Today the Zeitgeist team showed Michael Vogt a possible integration of Zeitgeist with Software Center. And guess what he likes it and he will look into making it become a soft dependency. He will look into merging our branch soon. All it does is tell you how many times you used an application in the detailed view.
So its pretty simple, and this is by no means how the design will be, but guess what there is more to come…
Using this we will start a whole new integration initiative during the Natty cycle. Some new features will make usage of the awesome teamgeist such as:
- How many people (and who from your friends list) have the application installed.
- People who use this app also use application “XYZ”

This is cool. This could also lead to (anonymous) app usage statistics submissions and could come in handy to app developers. Think Google Analytics for Ubuntu desktop apps.
Yeah actually Owais thats an awesome idea. It could be done that way.

This is very cool
I have another cool idea for zeitgeist, a time tracking tool! It could tell you how many time you have expended working on some file on with some open application or website, etc…
Something like this http://www.rescuetime.com/faq but without having to post that data into some website…
What do you think??

I like this idea very much. As @Owais has suggested it would be useful for application tracking, very much like the Wakoopa service http://wakoopa.com/
With this feature there is also the possibility of creating a standalone app for the user to time track their individual app usage & stats.

[...] By mvogt Seif Lotfy commited a nice zeitgeist integration branch for sofware-center here. I’m pleased to say that it is now fully integrated into software-centers trunk bzr branch. [...]
Great idea. It might be more useful to show how often the software has been used in say, the last 3 months. Maybe “Used: daily|weekly” and similar?
Very nice. It’d be valuable to add a source to the left that indicates applications that you barely use and so that you may quickly uninstall them.
The horizontal scrollbar in the second screenshot rubs me in the worst way. I really really dislike having to scroll sideways! Can’t the text to the right be re-flowed so that everything fits in the pane?

It is dependent on how you look at it and exactly where you’re coming from on the topic really. Ultimately attractiveness is in the eye of the beholder, but Now i am with you on this one.
