OMG! Trophy Case (Mockup)

While I managed to get a set of developers working on the OMG! backend, I took the initiative to mock-up the Trophy Case (OMG! Awards Viewer). It is my very first self made mock-up so please have mercy…

With the current development speed I think I can have it hacked in (Gtk) by tomorrow and will plan the Cairo version with some of the Docky developers…

So to sum it up:

  • We have the the backend reaching a good beta soon (it will get a zeitgeist soft-dependency for now to store when the awards were given to the user and how)
  • We have our first set of trophies:
    • Evaluating Tomboy usage
    • Evaluating gedit usage
    • Evaluating Totem usage
    • Evaluating listening to Severed Fifth
    • some more to come…
  • The mock-up is up and we are ready to hack…

Since we are working using an agile development process  and the new team is rocking, any modifications wanted or new requirements can still be developed, so feel free to state your opinion.

In other news… We are down to 16 bugs in Zeitgeist. Michal Hruby ported the datahub process of zeitgeist to Vala… making the overall consumption of Zeitgeist and all its processes around 10 MB maximum all in all. But under normal usage with Docky and Activity Journal its looks like this…

The Activity Journal is reaching a stable now so a release is sometime in the next 2-3 days…

    I’m sorry, but “OMG! Trophy Case” sounds like one of those terrible Nintendo DS games for 8-year-old girls. Unless that’s your target audience, you’re really going to have to come up with a better name.

    Maybe just “Trophy Case” :)
    I am up for suggestions…

    @Seif I think that your mockup might actually work nicely but with some modifications.

    For each app only show a set number (like 5 or 10; the point is no to have a horizontal bar if there is lots of items) of unlocked and about to be unlocked achievements. For the rest have a double arrow (>>) like the Maverick Ubuntu Software center has.

    Clicking that double arrow you would go to a screen for that particular application an you could see a list/grid of all unlocked/locked achievements.

    What do you think?

    @zokpeko: GREAT IDEA

    Ok, here’s a couple of suggestions:
    http://yfrog.com/ncomgzombiepigp

    - Add a heading with the current user name and picture from the gnome ‘about me’ section, just to make everything a bit more personal
    - Add some kind of ‘ranking/user level’ system, and in the future this could be extended with an online ‘leaderboard’ (the ‘compare with my friends’ link). Competition is good! :p
    - Add a gwibber-powered “post this” link, for bragging via microblogging sites

    And then another future random idea:
    - You could add different views to the trophy case app, for instance, a psn/xbox live view, which pulls in your trophies from other systems.

    Ability to view and compare trophies with other users would be nice and also would add some copetition :)

    or you could have it store your Trophies on CouchDB/Ubuntu One (which is nice for people using multiple PC) and have it show your friend Trophies which would add a nice social dimention

    While integrating the icons it might be a good idea to make sure the icons are pulled from the current icon-theme instead of the default-ones.

    I must say the same, I think Trophies are great in Games but I can’t see them in Apps. Anyway it would be cool if TuxRacer had some Trophies.

    This is the Clippy of GNOME. We just jumped the shark.

    Awesome! It would probably be good to have app-independent trophies too, for stuff like running multiple web browsers at the same time, adding a printer, etc.

    @Erigami

    Possible. Just the browser needs to have support for it. The browser should tell omg! about the achievements. If that is done, it is possible in OMG!

    Lol at the Severed Fifth achievement. That has to become a real one. :lol:
