I think this might be part of an ongoing side-story meant for geeks. In episode 3×12, Sheldon creates a Linux partition. In 3×13, he says that he doesn’t like Windows 7 on his new computer (because it’s more user-friendly). And, now, in 3×22, he enamoured with Ubuntu. My hypothesis is that episodes 12 and 13 are out of order, and that these episodes were meant to show the nerdy audience how Sheldon moves from getting a new computer to creating a partition for trying out Linux distributions as alternatives to the too–“user-friendly” Windows 7 to choosing Ubuntu finally and liking it.
I’m positive he’d use either Debian, OpenBSD or Arch Linux. But in Sheldons defence, it’s a lot more comfortable to play wow on windows Oh, and even though there aren’t any giant windows logo on the back of their laptops, on other episodes, there are giant, glowing XPS (Dell) logos…

At least he wasn’t using one of those laptops that has a giant windows logo on the back, like on other CBS shows.
Hmm only a noob would say “my favorite Linux based OS” instead of “… my favorite distro”.
The laugh track ruins everything.
Is that laugh track in the background supposed to be sarcasm?

If he was really Geek, then he’d be using Slackware, Gentoo or Debian instead of Noobuntu.
